“Without Warning” Q&A

I have some questions regarding Without Warning:

1. How did the idea for it come about?

A friend, Mike Macfarland, developed the original idea of an Alien hunter.  I took over the project and came up with the idea for the “flying blood sucking frizbees”.  I thought of a human hunter sending his dogs out after the prey and thought an Alien might use something unique.

2. Where was it filmed and how were the locations?

It was filmed in the Los Angeles area - mostly at night.  December and cold.

3. Any problems with shooting?

The fliming was completed on time (three weeks) and budget.  I was lucky to have a great crew - lead by cinematographer, Dean Cundey - and an experienced cast.

4. Any stories to share, funny or otherwise?

Jack Palance and Martin Landau were excellent to work with.  They realized the low budget nature of the project and were able to help in many ways - especially with the younger actors.  It was David Caruso’s first film - inexperienced, but eager to learn.

5. Are you surprised the movie has developed a following and people still enjoy it after all these years?

Not really surprised, but very pleased.

6. What’s one of your fave scenes/sequences in the movie?

I like them all… and wish I could do each scene over and make it better!
